Welcome back to the second installation of the Naya Shristi blog. Here is a space to give you access to more detailed information about the work we are doing and why we are doing this.

Before I talk about vulnerability prevention work, I want to introduce you to my friend Chameli. I met Chameli when she applied to work with me at NTC as our warden. I wanted to work with her from the moment I met her. She has a fire in her heart for her country and her people. I only had the privilege of working with her for a few months before she took a job working in a remote village as a school teacher. She’s working with girls to help give them experience and understanding so they can make choices for their own lives. The place she lives is a hub for human trafficking and she is working to prevent that from happening. While she would call me her mentor, I would call her my inspiration. I have the privilege of staying in touch with her and meeting her on occasion. I hope to travel with her soon to visit the village she is working in and see the work she is doing.

I will be honest, I have a lot of learning to do about what Naya Shristi is moving into. The work we started as creating opportunities is vulnerability prevention work. It’s making new opportunities for people so they can have good choices and not be taken advantage of because they have no other choices. Human trafficking is modern day slavery, and it’s also a deep gashing wound on our current world. While we will be working to create a new reality for more than just victims of human trafficking, we are trying to be part of the prevention movement. If we can work toward removing the desperation that drives people to sell members of their family, then we can make the world a better place. That is the vision anyway. Would you join our efforts? It’s a big vision, and we are currently a small organization. But we must do our part. Would you do it with us?
